Once Upon A Time... A boy named Jeff met a girl named Jessica. Jeff was immediately smitten and spent the next two years wanting to be with the girl he had become so close to, but could never bring himself to tell her how he felt.
Until, one night he just couldn't take it anymore and I was now confronted with the truth. Little did Jeff know, I was tired: tired of disappointments, tired of broken promises, and tired of not knowing who to trust.
We went on our first date which ended with the "friend's line" still being drawn. Honestly, I was scared to let my best friend see a side of me that I was sure would make him change his mind. After all, if this guy rejected me, he'd be rejecting the REAL me!
Our friendship took a short pause and then started to grow again after I got a job, working right down the hall from Jeff in the TV Department of Andrew Wommack Ministries. We grew close once again until, 7 months later, Jeff had just about all he could take and he told me that he loved me and he couldn't just be my friend any longer. The decision was mine to make.
Needless to say, I was a mess and that weekend, God began to show me how in the same way that He had never given up on me, that Jeff would never give up either and my heart would be safe with Jeff. God told me, "You can trust Jeff because you can trust me. You asked me to keep your heart safe till the right man came along. Now you have to let me give it away." I couldn't wait to tell Jeff!
I asked Jeff out for coffee and told him that I wanted to be with him and that I was sorry for letting fear get in the way. I had never been so vulnerable in my life and I knew I was opening myself up to him in a way I had never done with anyone. Needless to say, he was pretty excited! On Valentine's Day, he redid our very first date. He took me to an Italian restaurant in Downtown Denver and then
drove me up Gold Camp Road in the mountains to catch a view of the city. He then drove me home, walked me to my door, said goodnight, and walked back to his car... He had just come back from a tip to Scotland, so I assumed he was just tired and wanted to get home. After pouting for a bit, I opened my front door and found an isle of rose petals and candles leading me to my dining room table.
There, I found more roses, candles, and a typewriter waiting.
On the typewriter, he wrote a note saying,
I turned around and he got down on one knee.
I don't think my heart ever beat so fast!
We got married September 28th, 2016 on a beautiful fall day in Estes Park, Colorado. Everything was absolutely perfect and it will always have a special place in my heart. After the honeymoon, we jumped right back into our crazy lives, working together in the TV department, running a side business for video and writing, and chasing our huge dreams one day at a time- oh, and also going to Disney World every chance we get! Life can feel a tad overwhelming at times and I often don't really feel
up for the task, but thank the LORD I married Jeff. He's my best friend, my business partner, co-worker, photographer, occasional chef, and fellow dream-chaser. Don't settle for an easy life. Wait for that person that pushes you in ways you don't always want to be pushed in, who see the greatness on the inside of you and calls it out each and every day. Wait for someone who's dreams you can chase, and I promise you, your life will never stop amazing you.
